"A friend gave me a stack of old LIFE magazines. Being a collage artist, what else could I do? ""Sell them on eBay!"" was the suggestion. ""How can you tear them up?"" they gasped! Well, that's what I do. I like to take the old and make something new of it. I was very intrigued by these old magazines. I also enjoy studying history, and here was page after page of history. Not only the stories they choose to cover, but the advertisements and the language used as well, fascinated me. I held an item that was produced before I was born, and almost one hundred years old. I took hold of 5 issues of LIFE from 1937, 1938, 1939, 1943 and 1948, the oldest ones I had, and went page by page, looking through history, for victims of my desire to ""deconstruct"" and ""reconstruct."" Then I showed the set to a few friends. ""What are you going to do with them?"" ""Are you going to make a book with them?"""
