OverviewAt 120 years old, Moses climbed Mount Nebo to see the land God had promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. From the summit of Pisgah, the LORD showed him Gilead, Dan, Naphtali, Ephraim, Judah, the Negev, and the Great Sea (Deuteronomy 34:1-4, KJV). ""So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD"" (Deut. 34:5, KJV). God Himself buried him, and to this day no one knows his burial place (v. 6). Israel mourned thirty days, and Joshua the son of Nun - ""full of the spirit of wisdom"" - took up leadership (v. 9). The chapter closes with this tribute: ""And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face"" (v. 10, KJV). From the Nile to Nebo, Moses lived as God's servant, delivering His people and pointing them to the One true Rock. His life reminds us that true greatness is found in faithfulness.
