After a career in music as founder leader and drummer for the rock group The James Gang, he turned his attention to the research and study of license plates. He has written a monthly column on license plates for Car Collector magazine, and is a regular contributor to the ALPCA newsletter. He has served four terms as ALPCA president and chairman of the Board of Directors, as well as a number of terms as director of the Club.
