Author Information

Jake Spatz is a poet, freelance editor, and independent scholar, whose work as a literary translator focuses on Italian poetry and Argentine tango. His verse translations of tango lyrics have been featured regularly since 2020 on the radio program Bienvenidos al tango, broadcast weekly on WOWD-LP, Takoma Park. He has also presented his research on tango lyrics and their cultural background in a series of lectures, sponsored by the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School. He is translator of the Cantos of Giacomo Leopardi (2022) and editor of the Complete Poems of James Thomson (B. V.) (2012). His translations also include selections from Dante and modern Italian poets, and his singable translations include selections from operas by Mozart, Rossini, and Puccini. He studied literature, philosophy, and filmmaking at Sarah Lawrence College (BA, 1999), and founded TangoDC in 2005. He currently teaches and runs tango events in Washington, DC.
