He wrote on his library blog, I read the author's essay in the 2006 issue about a woman who actually grew up living in two libraries in New York City. How lucky can you be? She could wander alone on Sundays and have family parties in the banquet room! Suzanne G. Beyer, Associate Editor/writer for Seattle's Northwest Prime Time magazine wrote: Author Carolyn Rhodes, with her vivid descriptions and unique perspective, takes the reader on an adventure of her childhood while she and her sisters lived in two of New York City's public libraries. This book is a treasure. It's a bit of undiscovered (until now!) history of New York City, plus a bounce-back into her family's past. Library Girls of New York is for everyone, young and old! Bob Lipman, a retired New Jersey teacher who relocated to Alabama wrote, As your memoir unfolded, I realized that this is far more than an autobiography of family events; this is a peek into your Manhattan and Staten Island neighborhoods. I like that you have interwoven your family with the history of the libraries you lived in. Dr. Barbara Barker, Professor Emeritus, University of Alabama said, Carolyn is a creative writer. She takes you to places and historic events while growing up living inside two New York Public Library apartments. It's a page turner from beginning to end. It's a true upbeat story that only a library girl could have experienced.
