Overview

This book is aimed primarily at specialized translators, but also at anyone interested in learning more about lexicometrics (the linguistic science that studies word usage from a statistical point of view), discourse and terminology analysis, and specialized translation. Following a presentation of the particularities of specialty languages and specialized translation, an important part of this research is devoted to the analysis of two software packages: Texstat and Tropes, and their use in specialized translation. Translators can use the functions of lexicometric software to create glossaries, analyze word frequencies, create databases and, thanks to the contexts provided by these tools, better discover the meaning of words. In addition, the book proposes pedagogical activities that can be carried out using lexicometric software, which can become teaching aids used by the teacher to set different pedagogical objectives, especially for reading comprehension and oral and written communication.
