Overview

Letters from the Ecotone invites readers into an open-hearted dialogue between friends--a scientist and a pastor. In a series of letters written during the pandemic, Lloyd and Nagy-Benson explore the realities of climate change from the perspectives of ecology and Christian theology. The authors seek common ground, where science and religion meet and share a vision of flourishing life on earth. At a time when the climate crisis is quickly emerging as an existential threat, this book charts a journey imbued with the insights of ecological science and the wisdom of the Christian tradition.

Reviews

This is a special book. It models how serious, thoughtful, and real people talk about the earth in its time of crisis and also about Christianity. Neither are easy topics, and here both mesh into something very powerful, very moving, and very real. --Bill McKibben, author of The End of Nature In this intellectually sparkling, vigorous conversation between two friends--a pastor and a scientist--the borderlands between science and theology prove to be rich soil in which to unearth a wise, compassionate, and effective response to climate emergency. Digging into such topics as self-interest, interdependence, and the common good; grief, fear, and courage; and the power of social networks and moral pressure to accelerate societal transformation, this collection of letters makes a compelling read. --Margaret Bullitt-Jonas, co-editor of Rooted and Rising: Voices of Courage in a Time of Climate Crisis
