Author Information

Philip L. GILDENBERG, MD, PhD, received a BA degree in Physiology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955, his MD and MS in Neurophysiology from Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA in 1959 followed by a PhD in Neurophysiology from Temple University in 1970. He is Director of the Houston Steroetactic Concepts, Clinical Professor of Surgery (Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine) and Clinical Professor of Radiology (Radiation Oncology) at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Gildenberg retired from the clinical practice of neurosurgery in October 2001. He is the Past President of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. Professor Gildenberg is Co-Editor of Textbook of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (Major Reference Work, book with DVD) to be published in 2009. Richard A. DeVAUL, MD received his medical education at Iowa State University, at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, and a Psychiatry specialty training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is author of many international publications and served on various boards. Both authors are recognized experts in the field of pain management, and that name recognition extends through societies conerned with pain management, such as the American Pain Society, the American Association and World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
