Author Information

Karlygash ""Kara"" Yermukan is a Kazakh American public health professional, graduate of UC Berkeley's School of Public Health (MPH, 1997) and University of San Francisco (MS, 1995), a former US FDA microbiologist, and health and safety specialist. She worked in the energy, food, and pharmaceutical sectors in the US and overseas. As the US government contractor in Kazakhstan and Georgia, she also served as a biosafety specialist as part of the joint US-Kazakh and US-Georgian public health projects. Throughout her career she remained true to her calling to serve the public by protecting their health and lives through prevention. This journey led her to work as an organic farmer in Kazakhstan and by doing so, she discovered the power and value of functional foods and their effect on health. She has dedicated the last eight years to observational research and analysis in the field that encompasses agriculture, nutrition, and health. This book is a summary of her findings.
