OverviewLest We Forget: The Survival of a Cherokee Woman is a work of historical fiction inspired by real events that shaped one family's legacy and a nation's past. When soldiers arrive to force her people from their homeland in North Carolina, ten-year-old Lany escapes into the mountains with her family, avoiding the fate that claimed thousands during the forced removals of Native Americans in the nineteenth century. Sheltered by the rugged beauty of the mountains, Lany grows into a woman determined to survive in a world that repeatedly tries to erase her identity. As government laws tighten and racial boundaries are enforced, Lany's life is upended once again when she marries a white man-an act the authorities declare illegal. Branded a criminal for choosing love, she must fight to protect her freedom, her children, and her right to exist on her own terms. Though much of Lany's story was never recorded, her strength endures. Her sacrifices echo through generations of descendants who lived unaware of the struggles that made their lives possible. Blending history, resilience, and remembrance, Lest We Forget gives voice to a woman nearly lost to time and honors the enduring spirit of those who survived against overwhelming odds. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationLINDA MCCLUNG grew up on an isolated farm in Virginia, where her only outlet for the outside world was reading. Linda graduated from Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, holds a bachelor's degree from The College of New Jersey, and a master's degree from SetonHall University. She retired from a long career in nursing to live on a lake in South Carolina. After several episodes of life - threatening illnesses, she wanted to write her stories for the grandchildren so they could know what was important to her in the years to come. In addition to writing, she enjoys reading, fishing on the lake, and spending time with her grandchildren, who seem to appear in thinly veiled characters in her books. Linda spends time mentoring younger women through small group Bible Studies at her church and at the local JobCorps for homeless women. She writes devotionals for an online magazine, christiandevotions.us. Linda has five books in print: The Healer, My Sister My Twin, Seven Minutes into Darkness, Love is, and Lest We Forget: The Survival of a Cherokee Woman. Each book shares the gospel story woven into its fabric, with limited ""churchy"" language. Another book is in process to focus on the devastating effects of addiction.
