Lessons In Dry Drowning

Overview

Liz Rosenthal feels like she's drowning-without water. Once a bright and ambitious high school student, she's now isolated in her mother's basement, where every breath feels heavier than the last. As Liz reflects on the relationships that shaped her downward spiral, the faces blur together: her absent father, her distant mother, and Lucy, the best friend who once understood her completely but now feels impossibly out of reach. Then there's Mary, whose brutal honesty forces Liz to confront truths she's not ready to face. And Brian, the one person who refuses to let her sink, even when she's begging him to let go. Trapped between who she was and who she's becoming, Liz must uncover a deeper truth about herself before the weight of her own mind pulls her under for good. Lessons in Dry Drowning is a raw, honest exploration of mental health, friendship, and finding the strength to surface when everything feels impossible.

Author Information

Sarah Marine is a teen writer, student, and registered EMT. 'Lessons in Dry Drowning' is her debut novel, but her love for words doesn't stop there-she also writes poetry and contributes articles to her school newspaper. When she's not crafting stories or saving lives on her EMT shifts, you'll probably find her re-watching 'Gilmore Girls' (she's proudly Team Jess). Sarah is also passionate about mental health advocacy. She interns at Promly, a social media platform dedicated to helping teens make meaningful real-life connections and serves as Manager and social media Director for The Mental Notes Journal, a digital publication founded by her sister to empower teens to use writing as a healing tool. Living with OCD herself, Sarah finds writing an invaluable way to process her thoughts and distinguish her true self from anxiety. Currently a high school student in northern New Jersey, Sarah has called Seattle, London, and now the Garden State home. Someday, she dreams of living somewhere warm-but for now, she's content chasing stories, helping others, and making her mark one page at a time.
