Overview

In 1602 the German nations decided to separate the registration of new members from the ‘texte des rapports’ in the Livres des procurateurs, 1444-1602. The ‘registres-matricules’ that were subsequently utilised (Archives Départementales du Loiret D 242 and D 243) show that in the seventeenth century a large group of young people from many countries found their way to Orléans, as students at the famous law school.

Cornelia M. Ridderikhoff, Ph.D. (1981), University of Leiden, is the main editor of the Textes des rapports of the Premier, Deuxième, Troisième et Quatrième Livre des procurateurs de la nation germanique de l'Université d'Orléans (Brill 1971, 1988, 2013, 2015). She also participated in the redaction and edition of the Briefwisseling (correspondence) of Hugo Grotius (RGP, The Hague 1985-2001). Hilde de Ridder-Symoens, Ph.D. (1969), Ghent University, is co-editor of the Textes des rapports of the Premier, Deuxième, Troisième et Quatrième Livre des procurateurs de la nation germanique de l'Université d'Orléans (Brill 1971, 1988, 2013, 2015). She is professor emerita in medieval and early modern history at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Universiteit Gent and has published on university history, student mobility and schooling in Europe and especially the Low Countries.
