Reviews

'Despite having played a key role across West Africa, tata are heavily understudied. This book is therefore valuable not just for West African archaeology but also to people with a wider interest in fortifications and their socio-political implications.' Dr Sirios Canós-Donnay, Spanish National Research Council   'This book is an excellent melding of documentary, oral historic and archaeological data with rigour, imagination and clarity. It will be a very valuable and lasting scholarly resource on fortified settlements in historic arid West Africa.' Professor Kevin MacDonald, University College London
