Overview

""Christians know that suffering cannot be eliminated, yet it can have meaning and become an act of love and entrustment into the hands of God who does not abandon us."" - Pope Francis in Lumen Fidei, or The Light of Faith While Lent might feel like it's only about our regrets, suffering, and disappointments, Pope Francis shows us there is so much more. With great compassion and mercy, he helps us to break free of despair and choose trust. Here we find our greatest hope, lifting us up until the joy of Easter arrives. As you read these meditations for every day of the Lent and Easter season, reflect on the powerful words of Pope Francis and the accompanying Scripture, prayer, and action. Make the journey from suffering toward the healing and transformation found in Jesus' resurrection.

Lent and Easter Wisdom is a guide intended to draw the sinner back to God by helping him to cultivate a Catholic response to the evil of sin, true sorrow for having offended God rather than a wounded love of self. Through reflection on Pope Francis' words, Scripture reading, prayer, journaling and specific Lenten actions, one is encouraged to focus on the boundless love of God and place complete trust in his mercy. Cleary calls the Holy Father a beautiful example of full dependence on Jesus Christ.%quot; This example shines in the pages of Lent and Easter Wisdom, which includes a chronology of the life of Pope Francis, in addition to powerful quotes that reveal the Holy Father's spirituality.--Celeste Behe, Contributor National Catholic Register (03/13/2016)
