Seerden is parttime associate professor in (Comparative) Administrative and Environmental Law at Maastricht University. Since 2003, he is Judge in the District Court of Limburg (administrative law, environmental law, asylum and migration law). Ren� Seerden obtained his law degree (Constitutional and Administrative Law; and Social Security Law) at the University of Utrecht. In 1989-1990 he did a traineeship at the Asser Institute in The Haque and was a fellow at the Europa Institute of the University of Edinburgh. In 1993 he finished his doctoral thesis on the legal aspects of trans-frontier co-operation between decentralised authorities. He was for a long time responsible for the Master-courses Dutch Environmental Law and International, European and Comparative Environmental Law at the Law Faculty of Maastricht University. In 2002 he was a visiting professor for the course European and Comparative Environmental Law at Capital University Law School (Columbus Ohio).
