Overview

This book is a must-have for all Leeds United fans. Leeds United: The Complete Record is the definitive record of the club since its formation in 1904. Written by Martin Jarred and Malcolm MacDonald, the book covers every aspect of Leeds United's history from the early days of Leeds City FC through to the present day and United as we know it. As the authors wrote The Who's Who of Leeds United only four years ago, they have opted not to carry a section in this book on every player to have appeared in first-class competitive football for each club. Instead the Complete Records content has been broadened with the inclusion of a section on players who died on active service in World War I and II, testimonial games, United in pre-season tournaments and a section on kits, badges and logos.

Author Information

Martin Jarred is a freelance journalist who covers Leeds United matches at Elland Road for The Press, York, where he was sports editor for many years. He formerly worked on a weekly newspaper in Leeds, was sports editor at the Scarborough Evening News and has followed the club's fortunes since he was a boy. He saw his first game at Elland Road on 24 August 1966, a 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion. This is the fifth edition of Leeds United: A Complete Record that Martin and Malcolm have compiled. They have also collaborated on The Who's Who of Leeds United, The Leeds United Story, The Leeds United Cup Book and Leeds United: The Complete European Record. Martin also wrote Leeds United For Club and Country in 2009 and has contributed Leeds United details to the PFA Footballer' Who's Who. He is also co-author of Citizens and Minstermen: A Who's Who of York City. Malcolm MacDonald lives in Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and has been a follower of Leeds since the mid 1960s. He first went to Elland Road for the Everton game in October 1966 when a student of textiles at Dewbury. He moved in local government and was a management services officer until early retirement in 2008. For many years Malcolm was the football correspondent for the Stonoway Gazette and still covers the game as a holiday relief. As a footballer he played for Farnley Wolves and Stornoway Athletic. He has been secretary of the latter club since 1977 and chair since 2004.
