Overview

A bilingual singable book with a traditional nursery rhyme retold and reimagined. Sing along in English or Mandarin with Pinyin. Easy-to-follow colored keys guide enables children to play the song on the piano. A little girl sets out to sea on an adventure despite challenges ahead. What does it mean to retell and reimagine a nursery rhyme? Author Isabelle Engler dug further into the lyrics and broke tradition - what if the fisherman were not a grown man, but a little girl out on an adventure? What emotions do we experience when we face potential failures? How do we encourage our children to continue seeking challenges we know they can overcome? The singable spread and score make learning English, Mandarin, and music effective all in one book. With a mission to empower kids through music, this book was designed to bring emotions and the world into illustrations in order to prompt conversations between caregivers and kids.

"""What's so special about this book is that children can easily play the song on a piano through the color-coded notes. Because of this innovative method, I was able to play the song in just a couple of minutes without knowing how to read music. My son was really interested and was able to play the song after a couple of tries. He has ZERO experience with music so he had to understand the concept first, but the book helped him learn fast. The kids have been begging to play the piano again! We don't have one and used a free online piano and it was great for beginners like us."" ""This is a gem for parents, educators, and professionals working with young children."" ""Isabelle introduces this story based on a folk song to children including the ones hospitalized at the children's hospital where she worked. To empower kids through singing and playing music, Isabelle designed adapted scores that are easy to follow. A child can play and have fun at the same time!"""
