Overview

Learning a New Way to Listen, Gerry Grubbs new book, deals with grief and its aftermath. How grief grows out of love, is love, and how grief yields a greater love. Leading to the realization that nothing is ever lost. Sample poem: BRAIDED I watch you braid your mother's hair Your hands working like hers In the slow rhythm of the work And I see how my thoughts of her Are braided together the way our hands were Or the way our scent was braided together With the gardenias at night when No thoughts were needed Now I am alone with the flowers Startlingly white in this darkness As if they too were missing her

Reviews

""At the heart of this entanglement between nature and self, between memory and existence, lies mystery....(And)...we are invited to join...on a different journey."" -Joseph Tomain ""I realize that this book is actually a book about a specific Desire to collapse time so there is no distance. (It) succeeds because it offers poems so lovely the reader easily inhabits them."" -Eileen Tabios
