Reviews

It is an important theme. The author touches on issues that clergy will recognise but which the Church doesn't often acknowledge... Leaping the Vicarage Wall opens up a neglected area--Sanford Lakoff

It's a delight, concise, accessible and compelling. Whilst it tells the story of leaving parish ministry it is also generous in honouring that ministry. It explores the realities of parish life, the place of personality in ministry, and, training, support and 'career structures'. Listening to those who have left it asks and answers: where do we go from here? Hope is placed in amongst other things 'Common Tenure' to help manage role expectations and provide opportunities for review. She clearly lays down a challenge. The book will be of value to FM readers involved in supporting MDR, and, more broadly helping people to reflect on nature of parish ministry today.--Tim Ling, National Adviser, Continuing Ministerial Development, The Church of England Featured in the New Titles Just Published section--Sanford Lakoff 'This book examines the shifting shape of vocation and the pressures on parish clergy. In particular, it looks at the factors that can lead to personal breakdown, and makes recommendations for changing the nature of clergy training to better equip clergy for the stresses of the task.'--Sanford Lakoff It is an important theme.
