Overview

"Do you have what it takes to lead? ""Leading from the InsideOUT"" shows how to... > Cultivate your character as a leader > Interact confidently with your constituents > Establish credibility to justify your role > Create enduring connections so others want to follow > Produce future leaders for your organization > Discover the fulfillment that comes from growing yourself as well as your organization. With clear maps, in-depth descriptions, stories of other leaders, and a conversational style, ""Leading from the InsideOUT"" shows you why you should expand yourself, what to work on, and how to become the leader that others will want to follow. ""In Leading from the InsideOUT"" you'll discover that leadership skills are necessary but not sufficient to equip you to lead in this twenty-first century of highly complex global enterprises. David Kolb identifies seven crucial capacities that you'll need to develop, possess, and draw from as you step forward to take charge. As a leader you need to balance two opposing forces at once: the expectations placed on you by others and the reality that you won't always know what to do because you never encountered the situations you now face. Can others trust you to guide them through the unknown? If you accept the title and the responsibility then you owe it to yourself to fulfill your destiny, and to your followers to provide them with an illuminated path. NOTE: All profits from the sale of this book are donated to WYSE International--supporting emerging leaders for global change. www.wyse-ngo.org"

Reviews

"""Leading from the InsideOUT comes at a critical time. Now more than ever, our political community and business leaders need Kolb's wisdom to navigate today's uncharted seas. Through relatable stories, the reader discovers that the ability to lead from the inside and to build trust and community is within us all."" -Michael O'Brien, Peloton Coaching and author of Shift: Creating Better Tomorrows ""This book is very much on point with what client organizations are looking for in anyone involved in leading. David provides a comprehensive roadmap that provides an excellent reference for both coaching professionals and developing leaders."" -Alex Grimshaw, CLO, SyNet Americas, Senior Partner, PPS International Limited ""Leading from the InsideOUTjust may become an instant classic, because it at once is both lofty in its reach and scope--the journey to authentic, enlightened leadership--while also down-to-earth in its humanity and conversational readability. Many times, Kolb writes as he likely coaches his executive clients, with inspirational candor and piercing depth so as to create a 'happening.'"" -Rick Brandon, PhD, Author of Survival of the Savvy, Wall Street Journal Bestseller ""A must read book for a leader of any level who wants to expand their capacity to lead.Leading from the InsideOUT will force you to reflect deeply on your leadership style. David beautifully combines personal anecdotes with a range of references from ancient Homer's The Odysseyto Jim Collins' Good to Great."" -Lance Colwell, Vice President, Biogen, U.S. Rare Disease Group ""Make no mistake, Kolb's InsideOUT is neither a recipe for the easy way nor a display of short cuts. It does, however, offer a principled and reliable map and compass that any leader, regardless of stage of development, will find invaluable."" -Malcolm Gauld, Executive Chairman, Hyde School ""David's model of leadership development is unique in the industry. This isn't a simple, task-oriented, self-help guide for leaders. It is a deep dive into the motivations, emotions, and personal attributes necessary to become someone that others will want to follow."" -Rev. Peter A. Friedrichs, Lead Minister, Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County ""In Leading from the InsideOUT, David has brought his wealth of life, leadership, and coaching insights into an impressive recipe for leadership discovery and development. If you, as I do, believe that leadership mastery can only be achieved by starting with an understanding of self, and then by developing leadership capacities that are solidly rooted in this core, then you will find a treasure of insights by reading this book."" -Werner Eikenbusch, Head of Talent Management, Americas, BMW ""Much work that is done to develop leaders is focused on leaders' outward actions--how they speak, how they plan, how they handle difficult and challenging situations. Of course these actions matter, but Leading from the InsideOUT brings our attention to the real work that makes the action possible and meaningful: an understanding of how to master ourselves in order to actually demonstrate deep authenticity."" -Kelly L. Fairbairn, President, PPS International Limited, CEO, SyNet Americas"

Author Information

"David M. Kolb is a teacher and coach. His focus is on enhancing interaction between people-especially for those in leadership. His diverse professional path has shaped his unique approach. In his early career he operated a residential construction company. He later earned his M.A. in clinical psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles. He transitioned from his counseling practice to the corporate world where his articulate and passionate approach reached thousands of leaders seeking to increase their management skills. He was Director of Training for Ridge Associates, a principal consultant with PPS International Ltd, and currently is President of Prism, an executive coaching group. Executives who are looking for excellence in the way they lead seek him out as coach and consultant. His clients span a range of industries including health care, technology, energy, and finance. He has also worked with educational and non-profit organizations. Even though he is most familiar with the people-side of the business, he helps clients balance their economic business necessities with the very real needs of the people actually performing the work. From his years of work with leaders, he noticed that even when leaders use their best skills they still aren't guaranteed long-term effectiveness. In response he developed the InsideOUT model so that new leaders, as well as veterans, would have a guide for developing the fundamental, and sustainable, capabilities for being a leader. One executive said, ""David swims with us in our water. He gets inside our business with us."" This is because he is dedicated to helping his clients find ways to remove the complexity in their relationships so trust and truth can become their reputation. He lives in Freeport, Maine, with his wife, Serena and their dog Demi. They love bicycle touring, paddling at their lakeside cottage, and sharing time with their families."
