He wrote for Jazz Magazine and Paris-Match, and photographed leading artists and musicians of the 1960s before turning to filmwork for television and advertising. He moved to the U.S. in 1980, and directed more than 600 advertising shots for brands ranging from Ford Motors to Coca-Cola. Perier now lives outside Paris and photographs for Elle, Paris-Match, and Le Figaro Magazine. Leading French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere earned Academy Award nominations for his collaboration with director Luis Bunuel on the films The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) and That Obscure Object of Desire (1977), and for his work on Philip Kaufman's The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988).
