Its metaphorical prose and vibrant, nature-rich setting make it ideal for read-aloud sessions at home or in the classroom. The story concludes with a hopeful message and reflection questions to empower children to become ocean heroes by taking simple, meaningful steps to protect the planet. This manuscript was inspired by our love of the ocean and our desire to preserve its beauty. It has been shared with authentic elementary and secondary school audiences, and student and teacher feedback has been thoughtfully incorporated throughout the writing process. (The idea of the mysterious 'THING' came from a Grade 6 student!)
