After achieving the first French win for 32 years in 1972, Matra-Simca secured a hat-trick with further victories in '73 and '74, Pescarolo being the lead driver on all three occasions. John Wyer's British Mirage team won in 1975 with the formidable driver pairing of Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell - they would win twice more in the '80s. Porsche returned with a vengeance with the 936 model, winning with it in 1976 and '77, Ickx driving both times.
