This Is A Pre Exam Study Book - not a long outline. - Excerpt from the book: Any act of the police that exposes to their eyes something they cannot naturally see (in Plain View) is a search. Probable cause must exist for any search anywhere except for a weapon frisk during a 'stop and frisk.' Such a frisk for weapons for the officer's safety must be based on articulable reasonable suspicion (not a hunch) that criminal activity is occurring. The person searched for weapons does not have to be connected to the crime the officer suspects, as long as the officer is investigating - example asking the person questions - it and would be endangered if the person had a weapon. A search also requires a warrant but there are numerous exceptions.
