Author Information

Annie Clement, PhD, JD, is currently a member of the graduate faculty at the University of New Mexico. She has taught at The Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University and Cleveland State University. She also held appointments at the University of Iowa and Florida State University. Her bachelor's degree is from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She also has a master's degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, a doctorate from the University of Iowa, and a law degree from Cleveland State University. Dr. Clement is the author of three books, twenty-two book chapters, and over fifty articles and one hundred presentations. Her areas of research are intellectual property, gender equity, aquatics and risk management. Dr. Clement, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation (ABA), is also a past president of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Among her national awards are an Honor Award from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD); an Aquatic Council Merit Award; a Joy of Effort award from the NASPE; an ABA Section of Business Nonprofit Lawyers Award; and a Distinguished Scholar award from the Safety and Risk Management Council. John Grady, JD, PhD, is currently an associate professor in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina. He teaches graduate courses in Sport Law and Risk and Security Management, and undergraduate courses in Sport and Entertainment Programming and Risk Management in Sport. Dr. Grady's research interests focus primarily on the legal aspects of the business of sport, including implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act by the sport industry as well as intellectual property protection in sport, specifically right of publicity and ambush marketing. Dr. Grady received his bachelor's degree in Management with Honors in Finance from Penn State University. He received his JD and PhD from Florida State University. His research has been published in outlets including the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, and the Marquette Sports Law Review. He is co-editor of the Sport Marketing and the Law column in Sport Marketing Quarterly. He also serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport and is associate editor of the Journal of Venue and Event Management. He was the recipient of the Sport and Recreation Law Association Young Professional Award and has also received awards for excellence in teaching, research, and undergraduate advising at the University of South Carolina.
