Index/Glossary.ReviewsI am impressed by how the readings chosen... are both illustrative of important historical themes and also generally different from the usual. There is a strong slant toward social, intellectual, cultural issues -- and this strikes me as an appropriate choice... The special effort made to include women's voices is well handled and appropriate... I also like the inclusion of some unusual items not normally seen in Spanish American history -- the debates from the Portuguese Cortes, the items from the Mineiro Plot, the anti-Dessalines tract, and others... a novel but mainstream approach that expresses some of the new emphasis of recent historiography. It incorporates class, ethnic, and gender considerations while not ignoring the main narrative or 'heroes'. -- Timothy Anna, University of Manitoba. Author InformationSarah C.
