OverviewCinematographic narratives exert a powerful influence on audiences. They convey and construct gender relations and sexualities, which makes it extremely important to investigate the discourses, practices and effects of cinema in the formation of social values and representations; they also contribute to defining the dichotomous roles between man/woman, masculine/feminine, hetero/homo, as well as to investigating approaches that problematise sexualities in an intersectional manner. Cinema was prioritised as a locus of creation marked by the experience of homoerotic identities. In this regard, five films were analysed: XXY by Lúcia Puenzo, Plata Quemada by Marcelo Piñeyro, Strawberry and Chocolate by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Madame Satã by Karim Aïnouz, and Elvis & Madona by Marcelo Laffitte.
