OverviewThe last years of bus operations by Ireland's national transport company Coras Iompair Aeireann (CIAe) were fascinating times to be a bus enthusiast in Ireland. With an almost bankrupt country struggling to keep its population on the move, the 1970's and 80's saw minimal investment in transport infrastructure, and a 'make-do and mend' attitude pervaded. Written by Ed O'Neill, an enthusiast of thirty years standing who works in the transport business, the book shows photographs that capture the ingenuity and innovation of CIAe management and staff in keeping an ageing fleet on the road.Drawing on his amazing personal collection of over 6,000 images, the author features on-street and garage photographs of most types of the single and double deckers that were in service in Ireland from the mid 1970s up until the establishment of separate companies to run Dublin's provincial bus services in 1987. Streetscapes that have changed fundamentally will remind the reader of a gentler, less frenetic time. Rare photographs include the very short-lived mid buff livery on a Leyland PD3 and a Bombardier KD type demonstrator in cream and brown colours. Road transport enthusiasts around the country will be eager to delve into the rich history of this much-loved operator.
