A phony? A man in search of his true identity? The story of this film director begins in the trenches of the First World War, where he leaves his real name behind. After surviving the conflict, he decides to start a new life in Weimar’s Republic, which leads to his participation in the production of the movie Metropolis. There, the great Fritz Lang becomes his mentor, but also his rival, and when the nazis persecute Spiegel, he will have no other choice but flee to Spain.   With a camera under his arm, Franco himself will open El Pardo’s doors for him. But Spiegel’s adventures wont end there: espionage, betrayal, and his love of cinema will end up taking him to Hollywood, where he might finally find that long-yearned success... but before that, he will have to face his worst enemy once again, Lang.

Daniel V. Villamediana (1975) es escritor, guionista y director de cine. Colaborador de La Vanguardia, Rockdelux y SoFilm, es también cofundador de la revista Letras de cine y ha realizado cuatro largometrajes que han sido presentados en festivales como el de San Sebastián, Rotterdam o Locarno. En 2020, publicó su primera novela Las islas imposibles y, en 2023, vio la luz su ensayo autobiográfico La belleza de lo oculto. Doctor en Humanidades, actualmente imparte clases en la Universidad Pompeu Fabra.
