OverviewThis book is all about converting wastelands which have come up by large scale deforestation to accommodate urbanization, into arable lands to increase tree cover.A short history has been given about the progress of scientific forestry in India from its inception in 1874 to the present. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor Information"The author is a Research Scientist who began her career in Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India in 1961. She has worked on a number of national level and international research projects such as the FAO project of DANIDA on seed procurement and tree improvement. She retired from government service as Head of the Seed Science and Technology Department of The Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore in 1992. During her service she participated in a number of Forestry Conferences, Symposiums, Workshops, and Working Group Meetings on different aspects of forestry and has 45 research papers to her credit. After retiring from government service, she published three much needed text books on forestry through traditional publishers and those are (1)Taxonomy of Bamboos published by APC publishers New Delhi in1997 (2) Seed Science and Technology of Indian Forestry Species published by Allied Publishers Ltd New Delhi in 1998 (3) Tree Breeding for Genetic Improvement of Tropical Tree Species published by Allied Publishers Pvt Ltd in 2006.
