He obtained his Master's degree in geography from the University of Pune, India. He completed his Ph.D. in geo-archaeology at the Deccan College, Pune in 1983. His research interests include fluvial and flood geomorphology, palaeohydrology, Quaternary geomorphology and landscape evolution. He has co-authored a textbook, edited half-a-dozen special books/special issues and has published over 20 research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
