Overview

Volume Three of L.T.C. Rolt's classic autobiography 'Landscape with Figures' is the third volume of L.T.C. Rolt's autobiography. In this book, written during the last years of his life, Rolt continues his intriguing and often diverse life story. He gives an account of the early days of the Talyllyn Railway Co. and Preservation Society, describes his involvement in vintage and veteran car rallies, and vividly recreates his travels on the Tralee-Dingle Light railway in remote West Kerry. Intermingled with these are his struggles to become a writer of repute. This final volume, published posthumously, completes the classic trilogy and is a fitting tribute to a man who, through his appreciation of the 'aesthetics of technology', could be said to have given a literary shape to the Industrial Revolution. AUTHOR: L.T.C. Rolt trained as an engineer, but his fame rests on his classic biographies of Brunel, Telford, Trevithick and the Stephensons, and his superb volumes of autobiography, and transport history. He founded the Inland Waterways Association and was instrumental in encouraging interest in Britain's industrial heritage at Tal-y-llyn and elsewhere. He died in 1975. His son Timothy Rolt continues to promote his work SELLING POINTS: . Volume Three in Rolt's autobiography was written in the last years of his life .
