This book is angry, funny, sad and an insight into one person's journey through the UK 'care' system that echoes the experiences of many others. It reflects the experiences of a former student and friend who is still fighting the legacy of abuse by a maternal adopter and a 'gatekeeper' in social work who covered the tracks of his adopter mum. It documents the subsequent breakdown in foster placements and the legacy of a criminal record mainly consisting of the 'big' crimes of joyriding and stealing from the school tuck shop. This has meant that - despite an MA in Social Work - paid work in his chosen profession has been elusive.
