OverviewThis volume illustrates the history of the National Dance Academy, founded by Jia Ruskaja, a Russian artist who arrived in Italy in the twenties and became famous in the theatrical world as a dancer and later as a director of modern dance department of the Ballet School of the Teatro alla Scala.Jia Ruskaja introduced a new concept of dance, inspired by the ancient world and by the need for balance between the mind, body and feelings - a concept dear to European culture. It was at the school she opened in Milan (1935) that she laid the groundwork for the future National Dance Academy, creating a tuition programme that continued after the traditional eight-year study cycle. In 1940 the school was transferred to a public structure where additional emphasis was placed on dance culture and public awareness.Written in English and Italian.
