OverviewThis book intends to make known, through a complex network of interviews and fields of study, the mutual preoccupation between people with separate religious creeds in the West. In 2005, the Alliance of Civilizations was formed, bursting with hope, under the sponsorship of the United Nations. Its objectives? To maintain and fortify the ties between the West and the Arab world with the end goal of cooperating and combating international terrorism, correct economic inequalities, and to reinforce intercultural dialogue. A decade later, we are able to ask ourselves if these goals, as well as even more ambitious ones, have been seen reflected in the population. The results of the research will allow the readers, on the shoulders of the experts united in this volume (all of them with recognized experience in the field of immigration and international relations), to verify and question the efficacy of the politics of integration as enacted in several member countries of the European Union that have signification pockets of Muslim populations. Mirada del otro puts on the table both the problems with and possible solutions for immigration, but most importantly offers to the reader the opportunity to form their own critical opinions. This is a book in which no opinion is left out, where we are all both observers and the observed, where every view is taken into account.
