Overview
Tuchi longs to join in and play with the school's mariachi band, but it's the 1970s and in her community, mariachi is only for the boys. Still she hopes--and wishes on Seńora Luna. When Tuchi stumbles across her nana's guitarrón, Nana teaches her to play in secret. The music rumbles inside Tuchi like desert thunder. Will Tuchi be ready for the big audition? Author Information
Isabel Estrada grew up in the desert borderlands of Arizona, dancing and singing her way through life. Always a dreamer, she blends her life experiences as an educator with her love of Mexican-American culture and folklore into stories. Isabel currently lives among the rivers and lakes of green Michigan with her husband, amazing son, and two cats--who all love music. La Mariachi is her debut picture book. Muchas gracias a Señora Luna for making the musical wishes of girls and women everywhere come true. Viva la mariachi! Addy is a Mexican illustrator, who loves color, learning, and exploring new ways to build kinder and more interdependent communities. Her biggest inspiration for drawing is knowing that stories and art have an impact on the way people understand themselves and perceive others, building empathy and affecting change towards a more just world.
