OverviewCalling for a new science of the mind, this proposal recommends combining the contemplative wisdom of some of the world's major religions--Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Taoism--with the scientific approach. Beginning by examining the history of science and demonstrating how it has traditionally ignored the mind--despite its generally accepted role as the instrument through which we perceive and understand the world--the book argues that the meditative techniques practiced for millennia by the world's great spiritual traditions can lead to new dimensions of consciousness and deepen the experience of reality.
