OverviewAfter the heroic resistance of Kobane, worldwide attention has come to the Kurdish freedom movement. In Bakur and Rojava, Kurds have risen to advance a new multiethnic system of selfmanagement, based on gender liberation, social ecology, and popular assemblies. What is the ideological foundation of this movement? What are their political goals? What can we learn from their experiences? This compilation of essays shed light on the ideas and practices of Kurdish communalism. Special attention is given to the ideological cross-currents of social ecology and democratic confederalism. The book contains analyses and interviews as well as a range of public statements by active participants. Contributors include Janet Biehl, Abdullah OEcalan, Dilar Dirik, Ahmet Sezer, Ercan Ayboga, Havin Guneser, Eirik Eiglad, Minoo Koefoed, Yagmur Savran, and many more.
