OverviewEnglish summary: The works of art of ancient Egypt bear witness to the fact that art can only be created in conjunction with craftsmanship, which is in turn based on a profound knowledge of materials. From the earliest times, the ancient Egyptians possessed a great mastery of the processing of materials. Over time, they developed ever more perfect techniques that allowed them to create exquisite works of art from the monumental to the very small. The so-called Golden Age around the 18th Dynasty represents a climax of artistic creativity. The five so far best-known commemorative scarabs belonging to King Amenhotep III, which depict the hunting of wild animals, date from this period. This book provides a detailed examination of these scarabs and also includes objects ranging from amulets, fake vessels and votive offerings to cosmetic articles as well as finds from the Amarna Period. It concludes with an examination of the ushabti of Nu-neb found in tomb 291 in Thebes.
