OverviewCan art make a contribution to debates on urban housing shortages, influxes of new residents, and gentrification? And if so, what might it be? Guided by these questions, Kunst im UmBau sets out to investigate Berlin apartment buildings affected by renovation measures, rent increases, and the conversion into condominiums. The curated project series aims to create a neutral communication space for controversial interests and diverging points of view. The artistic interventions are located in semiprivate, semipublic areas such as staircases, courtyards, and entrance halls. The documentation presents works by Alexander Wolff, 44flavours, Jelena Fuzinato, Rubén D´hers, Pierre-Etienne Morelle, and Studio Achtviertel, while also reflecting processes and discussions.
