Die Kritische Übersetzungswissenschaft lehnt jeden theoretischen Monismus ab und versteht Geisteswissenschaft als Wettbewerb der Argumente. Fünf Essays in diesem Buch argumentieren aus der Sicht der Literaturübersetzung gegen die Invasion des Funktionalismus, gegen den unzureichenden Textbegriff des Strukturalismus und gegen den kompromissfeindlichen Dualismus Schleiermachers. Zwei Essays gelten der Ideologisierung und Entnazifizierung des Stildudens und den Übersetzungen von Oscar Wildes An Ideal Husband unter NS- und DDR-Bedingungen. Ein Essay gilt der Komikübersetzung bei Wilde; der letzte Essay zeigt die Wirkung der Übersetzung Hedwig Lachmanns auf die theatrale und musikalische Rezeption von Wildes Salomé Richard Strauß' Musik wurde bis in Details durch Lachmanns Text beeinflusst.

Author Information

Rainer Kohlmayer war APL Professor an der Mainzer Universität. Er habilitierte dort in Interkultureller Germanistik und lehrte am Fachbereich in Germersheim bis 2013 Sprach- und Übersetzungswissenschaft. Er gründete die Uni-Bühne, inszenierte eigene und von ihm selbst übersetzte Stücke, besonders Komödien von Corneille, Molière, Labiche und Oscar Wilde.
