Reviews

An extraordinary book of rare emotional power... We all think we're familiar with World War II, and that we know broadly what life was like for ordinary Germans. Kristina overturns all that and makes the reader think again-time after time. - Sue Poulsen, Fiction Editor, Reader's Digest (UK) A sweeping, epic tale: heart-in-the-mouth thriller alternates with wartime romance, painful redemption and a powerful indictment of extremism. - M.H. Baylis, author Bravely written. Inspiring. An account that addresses the pointlessness of hatred, and the passionate drive for atonement and salvation. A read to inspire and balance the history books. - Karen Carolan-Evans, Kent Book Club

Author Information

Peter Loughran is an award-winning author whose previous works have been translated into multiple languages. He spent his childhood playing in bombed-out Liverpool, with American soldiers everywhere and the occasional P51 Mustang being towed through the streets. As an adult, his interest in WW2 became a passion, and a lifelong research project. Peter has worked at almost every imaginable job, from 'timber-skin' docker, to an archaeological digger, from laboratory assistant to roofer. He lived for a time on Caldy Island where he worked alongside the monks in the garden and in the fields at harvest time. He lives in Gran Canaria where he continues to write every day, sitting in his favourite café overlooking the sea.
