Knowing Your Place in the Ministry: Serving as the Second Man

Overview

There are few men who have chosen (or been chosen by God) to be a second man. There is often very little glory in this life working for someone else. Too often, men want the glory of being the pastor, but are not interested in being a servant first. As pastoral staff, we truly should be servants to the people. As a second man, we are a servant to the Senior Pastor and the people. The purpose for this book is not to instruct a pastor on how to run his ministry; but it is written to encourage the second man in ways to identify with, understand, and be a help to the man under which God has placed him. If you are a layman in the church, take ownership in your ministry and be the second man that your pastor can rely on.

"""The lay people in your church will take you to your dream goal, or you will not arrive. A good "" detail man"" for a pastor will lead your church to such a goal. That is the value of a good second man to his pastor! That's what this book is about! "" by Abb Thomas (working out the details for 47 years of ministry). After 65 years in the ministry, I have learned much from Knowing Your Place in the Ministry that I did not know. I wish I had read these suggestions and helps when I was starting out or along the way. The ideas are fresh and interesting. Pastor Wilmore covered a lot of ground and did it well. He made me want to get involved and see these things work for myself. Thank you for sharing many valuable and proven ideas and programs. I hope many second men, youth pastors, assistants, and even pastors will read and benefit from your many hours of work in putting this manual together. Dr Tom Wallace is Pastor emeritus of Franklin Road Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The associate pastor has a unique position in the church and knowing their place is vital to the health of any ministry. While a Bible college education is helpful in preparation for many of the challenges an associate will face, there's far more to the ministry than what can be covered in the classroom. This book is a great reference guide, packed full of biblical wisdom and practical guidance related to the reality of pastoral ministry in the trenches. This book will equip the associate with the knowledge they need to effectively minister in their church. I highly recommend this book to both pastors and their staff members.
