Kirk's Current Veterinary Therapy XV follows in the tradition and standards of previous editions, but is the first edition to be published since the passing of Dr Robert Kirk, the founder and editor of the series, in 2011. For the reader unfamiliar with Kirk's CVT, the book is divided into sections covering a wide range of specialties ranging from critical care medicine to infectious diseases. The only subject not covered is surgery. Written by specialists in their fields, each chapter is a compilation of the current information available on the topic. Similar to any other text with individually authored chapters, the content and complexity varies. Although some topics have depth and breadth, others appear to be more succinct, which can sometimes be frustrating as the information you require may not always be present. However, for the experienced CVT user, you will know that each new volume builds on previous chapters in the preceding edition, which still contains current information. Regardless, the information provided is still pertinent and generally summarised into 2-5 pages, making reading easy, especially when time is critical. CVT has been a constant reference for me since I first discovered the 13th edition back in 2000. The format and layout of the book allows me to quickly review the current recommendations and literature when managing cases. As an emergency specialist, I often deal with conditions that are not in my field of expertise and cases where I may be unfamiliar with the current recommendations (e.g. dermatology). In addition, try as I might, I find it virtually impossible to know everything about every disease process in the world, and to find time to read every journal article ever published. CVT comes into its own in these situations, allowing me to quickly review the disease process and the latest recommendations. For the practitioner who wants to keep abreast of current therapies for a wide range of topics, but cannot find the time to read journals or attend conferences, CVT is the perfect reference for this very purpose.?
