"Kind of Blue is Arlice Davenport's third poetry collection. In this set of poems, Davenport employs two major literary devices with the aim of achieving a Zen-like effect of illumination on the reader: metaphor as ""this is that"" and mysticism as ""like becomes like."" The""blue"" motif facilitates that by offering new visions of how our experiences of blue impact us. Much like trumpeter Miles Davis's groundbreaking 1959 album with the same name, Davenport makes effective improvisational moves in this collection, freely playing with punctuation, lineation, and metaphor."

Author Information

Arlice W. Davenport is the author of two collections of poems, Setting the Waves on Fire and Everlasting: Poems, published respectively by Meadowlark Press (2020) and Meadowlark Poetry Press (2021). He is the retired Books editor and Travel editor for The Wichita Eagle newspaper. He and his wife, Laura, continue their travels, which include more than 30 stays in Europe.
