Aileen Wuornos Between 1976 and 2002, over 800 murderers were executed for their crimes in the United States. Only ten of these eight hundred were women. The tenth female murderer to be executed for her crimes in 2002 was Aileen Wuornos. Wuornos was the first female who ever fit the profile of that the FBI considers a serial killer. Wuornos was working as a prostitute, and suggests that all of the homicides were committed in self-defense. Aileen was convicted and sentenced to death for six of the seven murders and was executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002. This is her story.
