Chapter 7 [Searching for Sources] is one of the best improvements that I have seen in years. It provides great explanatory breakdowns for the newer researcher. It also provides a wonderful list of the better databases, with clarification. If I did not know better, I would think that someone sat in my classroom and recorded all the points that are necessary to include in any research paper. I have used KEYS FOR WRITERS for years as both a required and a recommended text. I find it extremely comprehensive yet easy to use. I also tell students that it is a text that they can keep for years as a reference text for future writing, both academic and professional-it's a great investment! I love the 'seven sins' approach to plagiarism. It goes far beyond what most textbooks include. There is also the section on cultural differences, something that we've had to deal with more as our international student population has grown. Kudos to the writers of this section. I've never seen such a well-conceived and executed plan in other writing textbooks. The bulleted guidelines present the exact information that I like to share with students.

Author Information

Ann Raimes, a respected authority on writing, research, grammar, and ESL, created the KEYS FOR WRITERS family of handbooks (Cengage Learning) to be the most accessible, user-friendly handbooks available. Susan K. Miller-Cochran, now Director of the Writing Program at The University of Arizona, helped shape the First-Year Writing Program at North Carolina State University while she served as Director from 2007-2015. Before joining the faculty at NC State, she was a faculty member at Mesa Community College (AZ). She received both a Master of Teaching English as a Second Language (MTESL) and a Ph.D. in English, with a concentration in Rhetoric/Composition and Linguistics, from Arizona State University. Dr. Miller-Cochran serves on the Council of Writing Program Administrators, including positions as Vice President and President (2015). Her work focuses on the intersections of technology, second-language writing, and writing program administration. Widely published and a much-sought-after presenter, she is also co-author--with Ann Raimes--of the KEYS FOR WRITING family of handbooks (Cengage Learning).
