Overview

The spiritual journey often takes twists and turns through territory that is uncharted and unexplored. It's so easy to become disoriented, lost, and even discouraged. Where do we go for direction? How do we find our way? In this follow-up to his best selling Catching Fire, Becoming Flame (book and DVD series), Father Albert Haase, OFM, mines the insights of our rich spiritual tradition and offers six presentations which become a road map and guide for the difficult terrain of the soul. Topics include: Near Occasions of Grace and Spiritual Direction, Resisting Temptations, Dryness, Darkness, Desolation, or Depression?, Making Sense of Suffering, Living in the Present Moment, and The Agenda of the Ego. Keeping the Fire Alive: Navigating Challenges in the Spiritual Life blazes and crackles with timeless spiritual wisdom taught by a wise seasoned teacher. This DVD is highly recommended for individuals and parish study groups interested in spiritual formation and growth. A simple Study Guide is included. Albert Haase, OFM, is a former missionary to mainland China and the author of eight books, including the one upon which this video presentation is based: Catching Fire, Becoming Flame. Preacher of parish missions, presenter of spirituality workshops, spiritual director, and co-host of 'Spirit and Life' on the Relevant Radio Network, he resides in Texas. Reviews

This six-part series centering on a retreat for Catholic individuals and groups committed to the continuing development of their spiritual lives features Franciscan Friar Albert Haase, who speaks of opportunities (or occasions of grace) to seize, as well as obstacles and temptations to avoid in continuing one's spiritual journey. Haase's advice is generally straightforward and clear, presented in a down-to-earth manner that only occasionally slips into overly histrionic mode and contains a welcome smattering of humor. The oral presentations are periodically punctuated by printed lists and illustrations to emphasize points being made, such as the importance of selecting a spiritual director who might help someone get through tough spots in moments of doubt or suffering. Encouragement to seek support from others is, in fact, central to the entire series, which is accompanied by a discussion guide with scriptural readings, prayers, and group discussion questions. A strong optional purchase. Aud: P. ( F. Swietek )
