OverviewThe Chanel Mobile Art Container is a travelling exhibition space built by Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid at the invitation of Karl Lagerfeld. This book presents Lagerfeld's black-and-white photographs of the Container as it toured Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York in 2008. The fluid, dynamic architecture of the Container was inspired by the spiralling forms of nature, and geometric structures of organization and growth. Lagerfeld takes Hadid's sensual aesthetic a step further in his photographs, not simply documenting the Container but abstracting it into a series of white curves, grey planes silhouetted against black sky, and strips of light, so that the pavilion itself is often not recognisable. The Container is composed of interconnected segments that not only echo natural forms, but allow it to be dismantled and transported. This was another starting point for Lagerfeld who photographed the Container's segments during fabrication. The book also includes three DVDs with film footage of the Container in the different urban landscapes of Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York.
