English summary: Rome in the modern era was the cultural center of Europe and the epicenter of antiquity. Treasures were recovered from its debris, and on its pastures, palaces arose that were as magnificent as their ruined predecessors. Artists from all over the world have painted its landscapes. Yet at the same time, Paris was trying to become the new Rome and to outdo the old. The images and texts gathered in this volume based on an exhibition of the same name ""Kampf um Rom"" (Battle of Rome) originate predominantly from the 18th century. They tell of a contest, an unbreakable longing, a timeless fashion: the renewal and perpetuation of classical antiquity. The exhibition took place from February 2nd 2013 to April 4th 2013 in the auditorium of the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. German description: Das Rom der Neuzeit war der kulturelle Mittelpunkt Europas und das Epizentrum der Antike; aus seinem Schutt wurden Schatze geborgen, auf seinen Weiden entstanden Palaste so prachtig wie ihre zerfallenen Vorganger. Seine Landschaft malten Kunstler aller Herren Lander. Zur gleichen Zeit wollte aber auch Paris das neue Rom werden und das alte ubertreffen. Die im Begleitband zur gleichnamigen Ausstellung Kampf um Rom versammelten Bilder und Texte entstanden uberwiegend im 18. Jahrhundert. Sie kunden von einem Wettstreit, von einer unverwustlichen Sehnsucht, einer zeitlosen Mode: von der Erneuerung und Verewigung der klassischen Antike. Die Ausstellung war vom 2.2.2013 bis zum 4.4.2013 in der Aula der Martin-Luther-Universitat Halle-Wittenberg zu sehen.
